sports day

Dear diary,

It was sports day. I was one of the participant in the sports day.I was very nervous. I took part in the 4x100 race. After some of the race my turn came. My heart was beating very fast. I was the last person and I will run till the ending line. My friend Rachel, who was the first person in the race and she will race the first quarter of the field. She did not know what to do since she did not attend the day of when we had practised how to play and from where to run. When I heard about it, I got more worried. I was eagerly waiting for the race to start and the same time I was getting more and more worried. Now it was the time for the race to start. 1....2....3...RRR the whistle was blowed. Rachel started to run. PHEW!! I sighed a relief. Thus she did the right thing. She passed the stick to the second person, the second person passed to the third person. I got even more happier when I saw that the third person,Nooro. She is really a very fast runner. This time I saw that the people in the sapphire T-shirt were leading. I thought this time I won't make it. It was my turn to run.I took the stick and started to run very fast at my full speed. I tried to overtake the first person but I could not. After I reached the endig line Ifound out that my team was second.I cld hardly belive my eyes.Though I could not get second I atleast got second. All my wish came true. My team recieved a reward. When I went back home I gave a surprise to my mother. My mother was very proud of me. I will remember the day.

Earth-Day

Dear Diary,

In the Beginning...
In 1963, former Senator Gaylord Nelson began to worry about our planet. (A senator is a person that the people of the United States have chosen to help make the laws.) Senator Nelson knew that our world was getting dirty and that many of our plants and animals were dying.

He wondered why more people weren't trying to solve these problems. He talked to other lawmakers and to the President. They decided that the President would go around the country and tell people about these concerns. He did, but still not enough people were working on the problem.

The Idea
Then, in 1969, Senator Nelson had another idea. He decided to have a special day to teach everyone about the things that needed changing in our environment. He wrote letters to all of the colleges and put a special article in Scholastic Magazine to tell them about the special day he had planned. (Most of the schools got this magazine and he knew that kids would help him.)

The Holiday
On April 22, 1970, the first Earth Day was held. People all over the country made promises to help the environment. Everyone got involved and since then, Earth Day has spread all over the planet. People all over the world know that there are problems we need to work on and this is our special day to look at the planet and see what needs changing. Isn't it great?

One person had an idea and kept working until everyone began working together to solve it. See what happens when people care about our world?

Earth Day 2009 falls on Wednesday, April 22: It’s a special day to learn about our planet and how to take care of it! Be sure to visit our Earth Day crafts, coloring pages, and activities.
